July 28, 2010 Proverbs 8:12-11:11
In the remaining part of chapter 8, Solomon gives Wisdom a voice and she tells us all about herself. Her best friend is common sense. She is smart and sensible. She hates pride, conceit and lies. Honest leaders rule because she helps them. She knows that if you respect the Lord, you will hate evil. If you love her, she will love you. She can make you rich and famous, important and successful. She always does what's right and she pours out blessings on everyone who loves her. From the beginning she was with the Lord. God created her before he created the world. She was there to see heaven and earth made. She helped God plan and build and she was happy every day. She was pleased with God's creation. When you find her, you find life.
Wisdom is giving a party for all the foolish and ignorant people. She has prepared a feast of meat and wine, all are welcome. Ignorant people don't like to be corrected, buy wise people learn from it. Respect and obey the Lord, this is the beginning of wisdom.
There's another woman named Stupidity described. She sits in front of her house shouting that if you're stupid come on in! She teaches dead people how to stay dead.
In chapter 10 there is a list of some of Solomon's wise sayings. I'll list some of my favorites:
"Laziness leads to poverty; hard work makes you rich." verse 4
"Good people are remembered long after they are gone, but the wicked are soon forgotten." verse 7
"Hatred stirs up trouble; love overlooks the wrongs that others do." verse 12
"You will say the wrong thing if you talk too much - so be sensible and watch what you say." verse 19
"What evil people dread most will happen to them, but good people will get what they want most." verse 24
"Having a lazy person on the job is like having a mouth full of vinegar or smoke in your eyes." verse 26
"If you obey the Lord, you will always know the right thing to say, but no one will trust you if you tell lies." verse 32
In chapter 11 I like: "If you do the right thing, honesty will be your guide, but if you are cooked, you will be trapped by your own dishonesty." Oh what a tangled web we weave... and "When God is angry, money won't help you."
It would be great for you to list some of your favorite proverbs in the comments section below.

July 27, 2010 Proverbs 5:15-8:11
Be faithful to your wife. Don't drink from another man's well. Save yourself for your wife. Be happy with the woman you married when you were young. She is beautiful and you should be attracted to her and stay deeply in love. God sees everything, sinners are caught by their own evil deeds. Because of their foolishness and lack of self-control they get lost and die.
Don't take on more debt than you can repay. Avoid it as if your life depends on it- it just might! Anthills can teach lazy people how to live life. Rather than lie around all day feeling sorry for yourself, get up and get busy like the ants. They don't have a boss to tell them what to do, but they never stop taking care of the hill. Liars are always up to something cruel to take away someone else's hard earned money, don't fall for it.
The seven deadlies are excessive pride, lying, murder, a heart that schemes evil, feet that run to evil, a false witness, an instigator of dischord among brothers.
Follow the wise teachings of your mother and father. They will guide you through your life. The Law of the Lord is a lamp to light your path. Correction and self-control will protect you from being seduced by another man's wife. Otherwise, you will pay the price. Don't despise a thief who steals something to eat when he is hungry. But if he is caught, he must repay 7 times what he took, even if it costs him everything he has.
Learn these commands and commit them to memory, they will keep you from adultery. I was looking out the window one evening and I watched a foolish young man get picked up by a prostitute. She lured him to her bed with promises of food and pleasure and he followed like he was in a daze or under her spell, knowing it would cost him his life. Don't follow her, son, she has alot of notches on her lipstick case and you'll be on the highway to hell.
Wisdom calls out to everyone and anyone who'll listen. She is there to teach everyone truth. She is more valuable than anything on earth.

Wisdom will control your mind and you'll be happy. Wisdom will protect you from silly schemes and the liars who try to sell them to you. They enjoy being mean and all they do is crooked. Wisdom will keep you from being seduced by the smooth talk of a sinful woman who doesn't respect her wedding vows. Do what good people do and lead an honest life. If you are honest people will learn that they can trust you.
By obeying these teachings you will live a life full of years and prosperity. Let your love and loyalty show like a necklace and write them in your mind. God and other people will like you and consider you successful. Trust the Lord with all your heart, not your own ideas. Let him lead you always and He make the way clear for you. Remember that wisdom comes from God, not you. Honor God by giving him your firstfruits so that you will have more than you need. Don't get upset when God corrects you, He corrects everybody He loves.
Wisdom is more valuable than silver, gold or jewels. People with wisdom and common sense are blessed by God. A pleasant long life and wealth and honor accompany wisdom. She is a life-giving tree that blesses everyone who holds on to her. God created heaven and earth with His wisdom and knowledge. Use common sense and good judgement! If you do, your life will be beautiful.
Do all you can to help people who deserve your help. Don't tell your neighbor to come back later if you can help now. Don't be mean to people who trust you, don't argue just to argue, don't be jealous of cruel people or be like them.
God lets good, honest people be His friend. He curses evil people, and blesses good people. If you are a stubborn fool you will be disgraced.
When I was young, my father told me to remember his teachings and learn good sense. If you love wisdom, don't reject her, she will watch over you. Wisdom is more important than anything else. Don't follow the bad example of cruel and evil people, stay away from them. The life of good people is bright like the sun. The life of wicked people is like total darkness - they stumble around in the dark, and don't know where they are going. Carefully guard your thoughts because they are the source of life. Tell the truth, know where you are headed and you will stay on solid ground. Stay on the true path.
Stay away from bad women! The words of an immoral woman may be as sweet as honey and smooth as oil, but all you'll get is poison and pain. You will end up losing your self-respect and your money and everything else you have worked for. Then all you'll be left with is your regret.

July 25, 2010 Psalms 148:7-Proverbs 2:9
148. Continued. All creatures on the earth obey God and praise Him! Huge sea creatures, lightning, hail, snow and clouds, stormy wind, praise the Lord! All mountains, hills, trees, wild animals and livestock, reptiles and birds, praise the Lord! Kings, princes, men and women, young and old, praise the Lord! Let all creation praise God alone. God's glory is greater than heaven and earth. He has lifted up His people in strength, He protects them because they are His. Praise the Lord!
149. The Lord's Love of Israel. Those who love God sing a new song to the Lord in your assembly. Let Israel rejoice and praise His name with dancing and music. Be glad for the Lord delights in His people, rejoice in this honor. With a song in their mouth and a sword in their hand, take revenge and punish the nations and kings, carry out their punishment. This is the privelege of God's faithful people. Praise the Lord!
150. Let Every Thing Praise the Lord! Praise God in His temple and in heaven. Praise Him for all He's done. Praise God with trumpets, harps, tambourines and dancing, with stringed instruments and flutes, with cymbals, with clashing cymbals. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!
POVERBS
Words to live by. Written by Solomon, son of David, king of Israel. There's something for everyone.
God is the beginning of wisdom, only evil people reject wisdom and good advice. Listen to your parents! They know something about life. Don't be seduced by wicked people who just want company while they live their wicked lives and do evil things. The life you take or the goods you steal will haunt you and make your life misery.
Wisdom raises her voice where people gather and asks those people who are inclined to evil how long will they go on being stupid fools? How long will they continue sneering at knowledge? Wisdom continues to try to help you, but you refuse her help. So when your life gets hard, you're on your own. You will get what you deserve because you refused to respect the Lord. You get to choose: wisdom and safety or sin and self-satisfaction and death.
Dear Son,
If you listen for the wisdom in my words, and apply your heart to understanding, and ask for insight, cry aloud for discernment, seek as for hidden treasure, then you will find the knowledge of God. The Lord gives wisdom, knowledge and helps you understand. He protects His people who follow His commandments and do His will. He will watch over you and guide you so you will know what is good, fair and just.
