June 30, 2010 Psalms 78:25-72

78. Continued. God sent the people all the food they could eat. Still they were ungrateful and complained because they wanted something different. God sent them quail and while they were still eating it God's wrath came down on them and He cut down the young men of Israel. It didn't matter, they kept right on sinning. They did not believe. When God killed them they eagerly tried to be good, but then they would forget and return to their lives of sin. God could have wiped them off the face of the earth, but time and again He restrained Himself. They vexed God again and again.
They had even witnessed all the miracles God performed to free them from Pharaoh in Egypt. He turned the river to blood, sent swarms of flies, an infestation of frogs, grasshoppers ate crops, the fruit went to locusts, He sent hail and ruined their vines and figs and cattle, their livestock was struck with lightning. He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt. God brought out His people like a flock and led them through the desert. He destroyed their enemies in the sea.
He drove the people out of the promised land so the Israelites could move in. They continued to rebel and test God. They worshiped idols and God gave them up to their enemies. But God awoke as if from sleep and He beat back his enemies. He chose the tribe of Judah and built his sanctuary. He chose David, who tended sheep and made him the shepherd of Israel. David shepherded them with integrity, guiding them with skillful hands.

Tomorrow read Psalms 79-82
