135. Continued. The idols of the nations are made by men and can't hear, see or breathe. They may be ornamental, but not useful, and the wicked put their trust in them. Everybody praise the Lord, He can do something for you.
136. God's Love Never Fails. (You probably noticed that half of this Psalm is the same sentence repeated over and over. Bible scholars suggest that this was chanted or sung by two groups of people to each other. This might have occurred as in Ezra 3:11, the Bible doesn't say. Still, it would account for the great noise that drowned out the sound of the weeping elders.)
Give thanks to the Lord; His lovingkindness is everlasting.
He made all that is, sun, moon & stars; His lovingkindness is everlasting.
He performed miracles to save Israel from Egypt; His lovingkindness is everlasting.
He emptied the land of people and gave it to His own as their inheritance; His lovingkindness is everlasting.
He freed us and nourishes us, give Him thanks; His lovingkindness is everlasting.
137. Captives in Babylon. By the rivers of Babylon we sat down and cried as we thought of Jerusalem. We hung our harps on trees, but our captors insisted we entertain them with songs of our lost homeland. Let me remember my homeland and never forget. If I do, may my right hand go limp, and my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth. Dear Lord, punish the Edomites for completely destroying the city. Babylon you are doomed! May the Lord bless anyone who does to you what you did to us and smashes your children against the rocks!
138. Praise the Lord with All Your Heart. I praise God with my whole heart in the presence of angels in Your holy temple. I praise You for Your love and faithfulness. You did what You said You'd do - You are more famous now than ever before. When I asked for help, you gave me courage.
Tomorrow read Psalms 138:4-140:13
