June 23, 2010 Psalms 61-64

61. Confidence in God's Protection. David knew his strength came from God. He longed to take refuge in the shelter of His wings. He knew God heard him. He was grateful for his heritage of righteous men and women. He prayed for his longevity and to be in God's presence, protected by Him. He would sing praises to God to fulfil his vow.

62. God Alone a Refuge from Treachery and Oppression. David understood that his soul found peace from God. He knew that with God he would be protected. Wicked people delight in destroying each other with lies and violence. David admonished people to place their trust in God. Worldly standing is meaningless, don't trust in extortion, or take pride in stolen goods, or if you become wealthy don't believe that it means anything. David heard two things when God spoke once: 1. God is strong. 2. God is loving. David knew God would reward each person according to what he has done.

63. The Thirsty Soul is Satisfied in God. In the Desert of Judah, David composed these words to praise God. As David's body thirsted for water, so did his soul thirst for God. Just as water is life, David knew that God was even more so. David knew God's love was better than life, and he would proclaim it. David's soul was satisfied with the richest of foods - the love of God. David remembered God wherever he was and knew that God would protect him.

64. A Prayer for Deliverance from Secret Enemies. David prayed for God's protection from threats of his enemies. David knew that the small minds of men were no match for God. So he went to the top and asked for help. He asked that they would be trapped by their own evil plots and stopped. Through these actions everyone would know the works of God and rejoice in Him.

Tomorrow read Psalms 65-68:4
