106. Continued. The Israelites did not follow God’s instruction regarding the inhabitants of the land: “If you don’t force out all the people there, they will be like pointed sticks in your eyes and thorns in your back. They will always be trouble for you, and I will treat you as cruelly as I planned on treating them.” (Numbers 33:55-56 CEV) They mingled their people together in both marriage and custom. The Israelites worshiped the Canaanite idols and sacrificed their own children to those idols. They sold themselves to an unworthy cause. They broke the covenant they made with God, which was the reason God was so angry with them. God handed them over to their enemies and they were oppressed and they wasted away in their sin. But God still heard their cries and caused them to be pitied by their enemies. Save us Dear Lord and we will celebrate and praise Your name. Praise the Lord!
Book 5
107. Give thanks to God because He is good and His love never fails. Everyone the Lord has helped should praise Him. Some were lost in the desert and dying, they prayed and God saved them. He led them to a city where they could live. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love. He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry. Those who rebelled against the Lord sat in despair and deep gloom, but they cried to the Lord and He saved them from their trouble. Let them give thanks to God for the comfort they have received. Merchants went out on the sea in ships and the sea tossed them around and their courage vanished. They prayed to God to save them and He did. Let them give thanks to God for His unfailing love. God will turn a lush and vibrant land into a wasteland if His people turn from Him. Likewise, he can turn a desert into a land of plenty.
Tomorrow read Psalms 107:39-109:31
