In the remaining part of chapter 8, Solomon gives Wisdom a voice and she tells us all about herself. Her best friend is common sense. She is smart and sensible. She hates pride, conceit and lies. Honest leaders rule because she helps them. She knows that if you respect the Lord, you will hate evil. If you love her, she will love you. She can make you rich and famous, important and successful. She always does what's right and she pours out blessings on everyone who loves her. From the beginning she was with the Lord. God created her before he created the world. She was there to see heaven and earth made. She helped God plan and build and she was happy every day. She was pleased with God's creation. When you find her, you find life.
Wisdom is giving a party for all the foolish and ignorant people. She has prepared a feast of meat and wine, all are welcome. Ignorant people don't like to be corrected, buy wise people learn from it. Respect and obey the Lord, this is the beginning of wisdom.
There's another woman named Stupidity described. She sits in front of her house shouting that if you're stupid come on in! She teaches dead people how to stay dead.
In chapter 10 there is a list of some of Solomon's wise sayings. I'll list some of my favorites:
"Laziness leads to poverty; hard work makes you rich." verse 4
"Good people are remembered long after they are gone, but the wicked are soon forgotten." verse 7
"Hatred stirs up trouble; love overlooks the wrongs that others do." verse 12
"You will say the wrong thing if you talk too much - so be sensible and watch what you say." verse 19
"What evil people dread most will happen to them, but good people will get what they want most." verse 24
"Having a lazy person on the job is like having a mouth full of vinegar or smoke in your eyes." verse 26
"If you obey the Lord, you will always know the right thing to say, but no one will trust you if you tell lies." verse 32
In chapter 11 I like: "If you do the right thing, honesty will be your guide, but if you are cooked, you will be trapped by your own dishonesty." Oh what a tangled web we weave... and "When God is angry, money won't help you."
It would be great for you to list some of your favorite proverbs in the comments section below.
