57. Continued. David prayed for protection from his enemies which he described by comparing them to wild flesh-eating beasts. Then he remembered the glory of God. His enemies laid a trap for him and fell into it themselves. David's great comfort was his music. God had saved him time and again and he was grateful.
58. Prayer for the Punishment of the Wicked. David noticed that some high and mighty people were not judging with justice, but with the desires of their own evil schemes. Evil is as evil does. David asked God to silence them by making them go away. Still though, it sounds gross to bathe one's feet in the blood of the wicked. However, that might get the message across to everyone that God rules!
59. Prayer for Triumph Over Enemies. Back in 1Samuel 19:11, we read about Saul sending his men, led by his son and David's good friend, Jonathan, to David's house to kill him. This was after David killed Goliath and was married to Saul's daughter Michal. David prayed for protection from the men who wanted to kill him even though he hadn't done anything wrong. David described them as snarling dogs prowling around the city. David knew that God was his fortress and that He would protect him. David asked God not to kill them or people would forget that it was God who had saved David.
60. Prayer for National Deliverance. David asked God for forgiveness and healing of the people and the land. They had fought and defeated the Edomites under the command of Joab and his brother Abishai. (This is briefly reviewed in 1Chronicles 18:12-13, though the number slain is different.) Verses 5-12 are identical to part of Psalm 108. David's plea was for victory over the nations they fought. David knew they needed God's help or they would not succeed.
Tomorrow read Psalms 61-64
