76. Continued. When God doled out His punishments to the children of Israel, they got scared and started cleaning up their acts. Don't forget God! Promise to be faithful and then do it!
77. The Call to God for Help. Asaph prayed to God to listen to his cries for help. Once he used to wonder if God's love had vanished forever. Had God forgotten to be merciful? Then he thought about all the mighty miracles God had performed on behalf of His people. He realized no other god had performed such miracles. Time and again He had saved them. Asaph recalled the mighty miracle of the parting of the Red Sea, how the water obeyed God and bent to His will, parting so the people could walk across led by Moses and Aaron.
78. God's Guidance of His People in Spite of Their Unfaithfulness. Asaph offered parables of instruction to teach about the works of God so that their children would know them. God's law was established in Israel just as He had commanded their fathers. They were to teach it to every generation so that they would obey God's commandments and not make the same mistakes of their elders. They were a stubborn and rebellious generation whose hearts had turned from God. They turned away from God and did not keep God's covenant. Even as God parted the sea and led them by day and night in the pillar of cloud and fire, or made water pour from a rock, they continued to sin. They tested God deliberately, demanding the food they wanted to eat rather than the food he had provided for them. They refused to believe that God could give them anything - they possessed neverending doubt. They did not believe in or trust God, yet again and again He took care of them.
