In the remaining part of chapter 8, Solomon gives Wisdom a voice and she tells us all about herself. Her best friend is common sense. She is smart and sensible. She hates pride, conceit and lies. Honest leaders rule because she helps them. She knows that if you respect the Lord, you will hate evil. If you love her, she will love you. She can make you rich and famous, important and successful. She always does what's right and she pours out blessings on everyone who loves her. From the beginning she was with the Lord. God created her before he created the world. She was there to see heaven and earth made. She helped God plan and build and she was happy every day. She was pleased with God's creation. When you find her, you find life.
Wisdom is giving a party for all the foolish and ignorant people. She has prepared a feast of meat and wine, all are welcome. Ignorant people don't like to be corrected, buy wise people learn from it. Respect and obey the Lord, this is the beginning of wisdom.
There's another woman named Stupidity described. She sits in front of her house shouting that if you're stupid come on in! She teaches dead people how to stay dead.
In chapter 10 there is a list of some of Solomon's wise sayings. I'll list some of my favorites:
"Laziness leads to poverty; hard work makes you rich." verse 4
"Good people are remembered long after they are gone, but the wicked are soon forgotten." verse 7
"Hatred stirs up trouble; love overlooks the wrongs that others do." verse 12
"You will say the wrong thing if you talk too much - so be sensible and watch what you say." verse 19
"What evil people dread most will happen to them, but good people will get what they want most." verse 24
"Having a lazy person on the job is like having a mouth full of vinegar or smoke in your eyes." verse 26
"If you obey the Lord, you will always know the right thing to say, but no one will trust you if you tell lies." verse 32
In chapter 11 I like: "If you do the right thing, honesty will be your guide, but if you are cooked, you will be trapped by your own dishonesty." Oh what a tangled web we weave... and "When God is angry, money won't help you."
It would be great for you to list some of your favorite proverbs in the comments section below.

Be faithful to your wife. Don't drink from another man's well. Save yourself for your wife. Be happy with the woman you married when you were young. She is beautiful and you should be attracted to her and stay deeply in love. God sees everything, sinners are caught by their own evil deeds. Because of their foolishness and lack of self-control they get lost and die.
Don't take on more debt than you can repay. Avoid it as if your life depends on it- it just might! Anthills can teach lazy people how to live life. Rather than lie around all day feeling sorry for yourself, get up and get busy like the ants. They don't have a boss to tell them what to do, but they never stop taking care of the hill. Liars are always up to something cruel to take away someone else's hard earned money, don't fall for it.
The seven deadlies are excessive pride, lying, murder, a heart that schemes evil, feet that run to evil, a false witness, an instigator of dischord among brothers.
Follow the wise teachings of your mother and father. They will guide you through your life. The Law of the Lord is a lamp to light your path. Correction and self-control will protect you from being seduced by another man's wife. Otherwise, you will pay the price. Don't despise a thief who steals something to eat when he is hungry. But if he is caught, he must repay 7 times what he took, even if it costs him everything he has.
Learn these commands and commit them to memory, they will keep you from adultery. I was looking out the window one evening and I watched a foolish young man get picked up by a prostitute. She lured him to her bed with promises of food and pleasure and he followed like he was in a daze or under her spell, knowing it would cost him his life. Don't follow her, son, she has alot of notches on her lipstick case and you'll be on the highway to hell.
Wisdom calls out to everyone and anyone who'll listen. She is there to teach everyone truth. She is more valuable than anything on earth.

Wisdom will control your mind and you'll be happy. Wisdom will protect you from silly schemes and the liars who try to sell them to you. They enjoy being mean and all they do is crooked. Wisdom will keep you from being seduced by the smooth talk of a sinful woman who doesn't respect her wedding vows. Do what good people do and lead an honest life. If you are honest people will learn that they can trust you.
By obeying these teachings you will live a life full of years and prosperity. Let your love and loyalty show like a necklace and write them in your mind. God and other people will like you and consider you successful. Trust the Lord with all your heart, not your own ideas. Let him lead you always and He make the way clear for you. Remember that wisdom comes from God, not you. Honor God by giving him your firstfruits so that you will have more than you need. Don't get upset when God corrects you, He corrects everybody He loves.
Wisdom is more valuable than silver, gold or jewels. People with wisdom and common sense are blessed by God. A pleasant long life and wealth and honor accompany wisdom. She is a life-giving tree that blesses everyone who holds on to her. God created heaven and earth with His wisdom and knowledge. Use common sense and good judgement! If you do, your life will be beautiful.
Do all you can to help people who deserve your help. Don't tell your neighbor to come back later if you can help now. Don't be mean to people who trust you, don't argue just to argue, don't be jealous of cruel people or be like them.
God lets good, honest people be His friend. He curses evil people, and blesses good people. If you are a stubborn fool you will be disgraced.
When I was young, my father told me to remember his teachings and learn good sense. If you love wisdom, don't reject her, she will watch over you. Wisdom is more important than anything else. Don't follow the bad example of cruel and evil people, stay away from them. The life of good people is bright like the sun. The life of wicked people is like total darkness - they stumble around in the dark, and don't know where they are going. Carefully guard your thoughts because they are the source of life. Tell the truth, know where you are headed and you will stay on solid ground. Stay on the true path.
Stay away from bad women! The words of an immoral woman may be as sweet as honey and smooth as oil, but all you'll get is poison and pain. You will end up losing your self-respect and your money and everything else you have worked for. Then all you'll be left with is your regret.

148. Continued. All creatures on the earth obey God and praise Him! Huge sea creatures, lightning, hail, snow and clouds, stormy wind, praise the Lord! All mountains, hills, trees, wild animals and livestock, reptiles and birds, praise the Lord! Kings, princes, men and women, young and old, praise the Lord! Let all creation praise God alone. God's glory is greater than heaven and earth. He has lifted up His people in strength, He protects them because they are His. Praise the Lord!
149. The Lord's Love of Israel. Those who love God sing a new song to the Lord in your assembly. Let Israel rejoice and praise His name with dancing and music. Be glad for the Lord delights in His people, rejoice in this honor. With a song in their mouth and a sword in their hand, take revenge and punish the nations and kings, carry out their punishment. This is the privelege of God's faithful people. Praise the Lord!
150. Let Every Thing Praise the Lord! Praise God in His temple and in heaven. Praise Him for all He's done. Praise God with trumpets, harps, tambourines and dancing, with stringed instruments and flutes, with cymbals, with clashing cymbals. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!

Words to live by. Written by Solomon, son of David, king of Israel. There's something for everyone.
God is the beginning of wisdom, only evil people reject wisdom and good advice. Listen to your parents! They know something about life. Don't be seduced by wicked people who just want company while they live their wicked lives and do evil things. The life you take or the goods you steal will haunt you and make your life misery.
Wisdom raises her voice where people gather and asks those people who are inclined to evil how long will they go on being stupid fools? How long will they continue sneering at knowledge? Wisdom continues to try to help you, but you refuse her help. So when your life gets hard, you're on your own. You will get what you deserve because you refused to respect the Lord. You get to choose: wisdom and safety or sin and self-satisfaction and death.
Dear Son,
If you listen for the wisdom in my words, and apply your heart to understanding, and ask for insight, cry aloud for discernment, seek as for hidden treasure, then you will find the knowledge of God. The Lord gives wisdom, knowledge and helps you understand. He protects His people who follow His commandments and do His will. He will watch over you and guide you so you will know what is good, fair and just.

145. Continued. The Lord is gracious, compassionate, slow to anger and rich in lovingkindness. Your creation praises You. People will know about You because Your people will tell them. Your kingdom will last forever, through all generations. You satisfy the needs of every living thing. The Lord satisfies the desires of those who love and worship Him. He loves those who love Him and pray sincerely to Him, but He destroys the wicked. My mouth will speak praise, let all creatures praise Him forever.
146. The Lord an Abundant Helper. I will praise God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in mortal leaders or men who cannot save you. They die just like everyone else and their grand plans die with them. Blessed is the person whose help and hope comes from God. He feeds people, sets prisoners free, gives sight to the blind, lifts those bowed down and the righteous. The Lord watches over travelers, orphans and widows. He frustrates the ways of the wicked. The Lord reigns forever over all generations. Praise the Lord.
147. The Might and Grace of the Lord. How good and pleasant it is to praise God. The Lord restores Jerusalem and heals our bodies and souls. He decides how many stars there are and calls them all by name. Great and mighty is the power of God, His understanding is limitless. God helps the humble and throws the wicked to the ground. Give thanks to God for all He does. He makes rain fall and grass grow to feed the cattle and young ravens when they call. The Lord's delight isn't in the strength of beast or man, but in those who love Him and hope in His unfailing love. Praise God, Jerusalem, He satisfies all your needs. By His command snow falls, frost scatters, and hail hurls down. Who can stand the cold? He commands the ice to melt, the wind to blow and the streams to flow. He has revealed His word and laws to the Israelites, but not for any other nation. Praise the Lord.
148. Nature's Praise of the Lord. Praise the Lord in the highest heavens, all angels and heavenly hosts. Praise Him sun, moon and stars of light. Even the waters in heaven, praise the Lord! Let them praise Him for creating them and making a place for them forever.

141. Conduct Amidst Trial. Dear Lord, I call to You, come to me now, hear my voice. May my prayer rise up like incense before You. I lift up my hands as the evening sacrifice. Guard my lips and heart so I will not be drawn to evil. Let me be corrected by a faithful person. I condemn what evil people do, please don't let me be friends with them. Everyone will know I was right when their rulers are thrown off a cliff. Their bones will lie there, broken like a freshly plowed field. My eyes stay on You, Lord, do not let me die. Keep me safe from the traps laid for me by evil people.
142. Prayer for Help in Trouble. All I can do is pray. I tell Him all my troubles. When I am weak, You are there to guide me. Traps have been hidden on my path by men I cannot see. No one cares for me, there is nowhere I can go. You, Dear Lord are my safe haven. Listen to me, I am desperate for Your help, my enemies are too strong for me. Let me live so I can praise You. When Your people see how You have blessed me, they will rush to my side.
143. Prayer of a Soul in Distress. Dear Lord, hear my prayer, but don't judge me because no one is innocent on this earth. I am terrified by my enemies who are crushing me into the dust. I feel like the dead, hopeless and numb. I remember the good times and the amazing things You've done. I am weak, I need Your help now, or I will die. Every morning send me Your love, I trust You. Show me where You want me to go, You lift my soul. I ask for Your guidance. Save me from my enemies, I come to You for safety. You are my God, show me what You want me to do. Let Your gentle Spirit guide me in the right path. Show Your love for me by destroying my enemies.
144. Prayer for Rescue and Prosperity. Praise to the Lord my rock and my fortress. You are my friend and You made me ruler of our people. What is man that You should care for him? We are fleeting like a shadow. Open the heavens, come down and touch the mountains, make them smoke. Scatter my enemies with arrows of lightning. Reach down and set me free. Save me from the lying foreigners who won't be honest. Then our sons will be healthy and our daughters strong and beautiful. Our crops will flourish and our livestock will increase. There will be no more fear of being taken captive. Blessed are the people whose God is the Lord.
145. The Goodness of the Lord. I will praise You, God, every day. You are worthy of praise and You are greater than anyone can understand. One generation will tell the next about You and the amazing things You've done. I will contemplate your wonderful works. We will joyfully celebrate Your awesome mercy and saving grace.

July 22, 2010 Psalms 138:4-140:13
138. Continued. Hopefully, when all the kings of earth hear Your words, they will praise and worship You too. The glory of God is great. From high above us You care for the humblest of us. You keep a close watch on the proud ones. I am surrounded by danger, but You protect me and guard me with Your arm. The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me and treat me with kindness. His love endures forever. Don't give up on us now!
139. The Lord is Always Near. You have seen inside my heart, Lord, and You know all about me. You know what I'm doing and thinking. Wherever I go, You know what I'll say before I say it. You protect me from danger. All of this is more than I can understand. There's nowhere I can hide from You or Your Spirit. If I had wings and could fly, You would protect me. If I hide until dark and then come out, You can see me because the night and day are the same to You. You knit me together inside my mother, I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Before I was born, You wrote in Your book everything I would do. Your thoughts are far beyond my understanding or my imagination, and more than I could count. When I awake, there You are! How I wish You would kill the heartless and cruel people and protect me from them. They are always working at evil tasks. They hate you and refuse to obey, so I hate them too. Search my heart, God, and find out everything I am thinking. Help me follow Your ways.
140. Prayer for Protection Against the Wicked. Rescue me from the wicked people who want to harm me. They make up lies about me. They make plans continually to trick and trap me. You are my God, please hear my cries for mercy. Be my deliverer and shield. Do not let their plans succeed, or they will do even more. Let the things they want to curse me with happen to them. May they burn in a pit of fire! Let bad things happen to those who lie. I know that God takes care of the poor and needy. The righteous will praise Your name and live with You.

July 21, 2010 Pslams 135:15-138:3
135. Continued. The idols of the nations are made by men and can't hear, see or breathe. They may be ornamental, but not useful, and the wicked put their trust in them. Everybody praise the Lord, He can do something for you.
136. God's Love Never Fails. (You probably noticed that half of this Psalm is the same sentence repeated over and over. Bible scholars suggest that this was chanted or sung by two groups of people to each other. This might have occurred as in Ezra 3:11, the Bible doesn't say. Still, it would account for the great noise that drowned out the sound of the weeping elders.)
Give thanks to the Lord; His lovingkindness is everlasting.
He made all that is, sun, moon & stars; His lovingkindness is everlasting.
He performed miracles to save Israel from Egypt; His lovingkindness is everlasting.
He emptied the land of people and gave it to His own as their inheritance; His lovingkindness is everlasting.
He freed us and nourishes us, give Him thanks; His lovingkindness is everlasting.
137. Captives in Babylon. By the rivers of Babylon we sat down and cried as we thought of Jerusalem. We hung our harps on trees, but our captors insisted we entertain them with songs of our lost homeland. Let me remember my homeland and never forget. If I do, may my right hand go limp, and my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth. Dear Lord, punish the Edomites for completely destroying the city. Babylon you are doomed! May the Lord bless anyone who does to you what you did to us and smashes your children against the rocks!
138. Praise the Lord with All Your Heart. I praise God with my whole heart in the presence of angels in Your holy temple. I praise You for Your love and faithfulness. You did what You said You'd do - You are more famous now than ever before. When I asked for help, you gave me courage.

July 20, 2010 Psalms 132-135:14
132. The Promise to David and Zion. Our Lord, don't forget David's suffering. He promised to find a home for the ark. We found the ark in the field at Ephrath where the Philistines left it.(1Sam 6:21) Come to Your new home O God, don't reject your servant David. The Lord promised that one of David's descendants would be on the throne forever if they keep the covenant. The Lord chose Zion for his home and blessed it abundantly.
133. The Excellence of Brotherly Unity. It's a blessing when the family gets along. It is as beautiful as oil poured on Aaron's head, dripping down his beard and onto his collar. It is like dew on the mountain, where the Lord gives his blessing, even eternal life.
134. Praising the Lord at Night. All night servants of the Lord raise your hands and praise Him. May God, maker of all things bless you.
135. Praise to the Lord. Praise the name of the Lord. All who serve in the temple come and shout praises. He chose the family of Jacob and the people of Israel for His very own. I know that God is great. He does whatever pleases Him in the sky and the sea. He makes clouds rise and sends lightning with the rain and wind. He sent many signs and wonders to Egypt. He struck down many nations and killed kings. Your name, Lord lives forever and you are known in all generations. The Lord will support His people and have compassion on them.

July 19, 2010 Psalms 125-131
125. The Lord Protects His People. People who trust the Lord are like a mountain that can't be shaken and will stand forever. The Lord protects His people by holding them in His arms forever. The Lord will not allow His people to be ruled by the wicked. We ask God to do good to everyone who obeys Him, and banish the wicked.
126. Return from Captivity. We thought we were dreaming when God brought us back home. We celebrated with laughter and song. Other nations were saying that God had performed miracles to free us. We ask You, God to restore our prosperity. We sowed with tears and will harvest with songs of joy.
127. Prosperity Comes from the Lord. Houses don't get built without God. Cities don't get guarded without God. You start work early and keep going until it's late so you can eat - God grants sleep to those He loves. Children are a gift from God. They are like arrows for a warrior, the more you have the better protected you are in your old age.
128. The Lord Rewards His Faithful People. The Lord will bless you if you love Him and obey all His laws. You will have plenty and be happy. You will have many children. May the Lord bless you with prosperity as long as you live. May you live long enough to see your grandchildren.
129. A Prayer for the Defeat of Enemies. Ever since I was little enemies attacked Israel. They never won even though when they plowed my back they left deep furrows. The Lord set me free. May all who hate us be turned back in shame, may they be like grass that won't grow or a harvester without fruit. They aren't worthy of God's blessing.
130. Trusting the Lord in Times of Trouble. Dear Lord, please hear me. It's a good thing that You forgive us, we wouldn't last long if You kept a record of our sins. I wait for You, Lord, with more eagerness than a soldier on duty waits for the dawn. Israel, trust the Lord, He is always merciful and will save you from all your sins.
131. Trust the Lord! My heart is not proud, I don't look down on people. I don't waste my time on impossible schemes. I have learned to feel safe and satisfied like a child on its mother's lap. Put your hope in the Lord forever.

Sin and Shin Peace in Keeping God’s Law
Rulers ridicule me for no reason, but I tremble at Your word. I rejoice in Your promise because I have found great treasure. I hate liars, but I love Your word. Seven times a day I praise You for Your laws. You give great peace to those who come to you and nothing can make them fall. You are my only hope of being saved and I do all You command. I love and obey Your statutes with all that I am. I obey all your laws, You know everything I do.
Taw Prayer for Understanding
Hear my prayer, Lord. Give me understanding that comes from Your word. Listen to my prayers and my request. Deliver me as You promised. May praise spill out of my mouth for you because You teach me Your law. I sing about Your promise, all Your commands are righteous. May your hand help me because I have chosen Your precepts. I long for You to save me, Lord. Your word makes me happy. Help me stay alive so I can praise You. May your laws come to my aid. I have made mistakes, find me, for I remember You.
120. Prayer for Deliverance from the Treacherous. When I am afraid I call on God and He answers me. Save me from liars. What punishment fits you liars? Your punishment should be sharp flaming arrows. All I want is peace. Everyone around me wants war.
121. The Lord Will Protect His People. I look to the hills, where does my help come from? Help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. He won’t let you slip – he’s always watching over you, he never dozes or sleeps. The Lord watches over you and shields you from the sun. God will keep you from all harm and watch over your life. The Lord will watch over your coming and going forever.
122. A Song of Praise. I was so happy when people wanted to go to the house of God. Jerusalem is such a beautiful city. All the tribes obey God and come to praise His name. David’s royal throne is here and justice rules. We pray for peace in Jerusalem and for those who love you. Because of my family I pray for peace. For the house of God I will work for your good.
123. A Prayer for Mercy. I lift my eyes toward heaven and pray to God for mercy. We have had all the insults we can stand and we can’t stand any more abuse from those proud, conceited people.
124. God’s Deliverance. If God had not been on our side when we were attacked we would all be dead. When we were attacked it was so intense it would have swept us away like a furious flood. Let us praise the Lord! He saved us from enemies as ferocious as wild beasts, and we escaped. The Lord made heaven and earth, He is the one who sends us help.

Mem The Love of God’s Law
I love Your law and contemplate it all day long. Your laws never leave my mind and give me wisdom over my enemies. I have better understanding than my teachers because I meditate on Your law all day long. My understanding surpasses that of the elders, I obey Your precepts. I have avoided trouble by obeying Your law. You have taught me and I have not strayed from Your teachings. Your words are sweeter to me than honey! They give me understanding so I hate all lies.
Nun God’s Law a Lamp for the Feet
Your words light the path before my feet. I have sworn a sacred oath to follow Your law. I have suffered, save my life as You said You would. Accept my praise and teach me Your ways. My life is in danger but I never forget Your teachings. Bad people try to trap me, but I will follow You. My heart is full because of Your laws, they are my most prized treasure. My heart is Yours to the very end.
Samekh God’s law a Hiding Place
I hate liars, but I love Your law. You are my protection, your word my only hope. Get away from me wicked people! I keep God’s commandments. Let me live, protect my hope so I won’t be disappointed. Keep me safe and secure so I will live out Your word. You refuse all deceivers, they reject Your teaching. To You all evil people are garbage, so I follow Your rules. I tremble when I think of Your judgment.

Have mercy on me like You do for those who love You. Show me where You want me to go and let no sin have influence over me. Release me from control of men so I can obey Your law. Smile on me and teach me Your ways. When Your law is not obeyed I’m so sad that I cry.
Tsadhe God’s Law is True

Waw Salvation through God’s Law
May Your love and salvation come to me as You promised, then I will have an answer for those who insult me for trusting the Lord. I trust You, don’t take away my chance to speak Your truth. I will obey Your law forever and ever. I am free because I have followed Your law. I will speak of Your law to kings and not be ashamed because I love Your commandments; they make me happy. I lift up my hands to Your law which I love and contemplate.
Zayin Comfort in God’s Law
Don’t forget Your promise to me, I depend on it. Your promise comforts me when I am hurting. Conceited people mock me, but I obey Your law. I remember Your ancient laws and they comfort me. When people forsake You, I burn with anger. Wherever I go, I am inspired with songs from Your teachings. At night I think about You, and keep Your law. These gifts are mine because I followed Your precepts.

The Lord is my portion and I have promised to obey Him. I sought You with all my heart; be kind to me as You promised. I pay attention to what You say and I am quick to follow You. Evil people may try to set me up, but I will obey You. In the middle of the night I wake up to give You thanks. I am friends with people who honor You. The earth is full of Your love; teach me Your laws.
Teth God’s law taught by affliction
You have been kind to me just as You promised. Give me wisdom and good judgment; I trust You. Once You corrected me when I needed it, now I obey Your word. You are kind and good; teach me Your ways. Wicked people tell lies about me, but I just follow Your teachings with all my heart. Their hearts do not feel, but I find happiness in your law. When You punished me it did me good because I learned Your law. The earth is filled with Your love; Your law is worth more than silver and gold.
Yodh Confidence in the Law
You made me with Your hands, give me understanding of Your commands. When other worshipers see me they will be glad because I trust You. I know you were right to punish me; Your decisions are right. I am Your servant, give me comfort as You promised. May those conceited people who sneer at me for obeying Your law be shamed. May all who understand Your law turn to me. May I keep Your laws so I will not be ashamed.
Kaph A Longing for Comfort
My soul longs for Your salvation, my hope is in Your word. My eyes grow weak from looking for your promise, I wonder when You will comfort me. My life is drying up like a dehydrated wineskin, I remember Your commands. How long will I wait before You punish my enemies? Those proud people dig pits for me to fall in, when will You punish them. Your laws can be trusted! Protect me from those cruel liars who try to destroy me. They almost beat me, but I remember Your precepts. Save my life and I will obey You.
Lamedh God’s Unchangeable Law
Your word is eternal and stands firm in the heavens. You are faithful to all generations; the earth You created stands firm. Everything bends to Your will; Your laws are still in effect. If obeying You didn’t make me happy, I would have died in misery. I will always obey Your teachings because I feel renewed by them. I am Yours, I have respected Your laws, so keep me safe. Evil people wait to destroy me; I will follow Your rules. Nothing is completely perfect except Your teachings.
Tomorrow read Psalms 119:97-160

July 15, 2010 Psalms 118:10-119:40

118. Continued. He was surrounded on all sides by enemies in the name of the Lord, he cut them off. When he was about to fall God helped him. His strength and power come from the Lord. The Lord is powerful; He wins victories. Though punished for his sins, his life was safe and he would tell what the Lord has done. God has saved us from death, let us celebrate and be glad! “The Lord is my God! I will praise Him and tell Him how thankful I am. Tell the Lord how thankful you are, because he is kind and always merciful.” Verses 28-29 CEV
About Psalm 119: This is a special Psalm. It is an acrostic poem: the verses of each stanza begin with the same letter of the Hebrew alphabet which contains 22 letters. Likewise, Psalm 119 contains 22 stanzas containing 8 verses each.
“Its variety is that of a kaleidoscope: from a few objects innumerable permutations and combinations are produced. In the kaleidoscope you look once, and there is a strangely beautiful form you shift the glass a very little, and another shape, equally delicate and beautiful, is before your eyes. So it is here. What you see is the same, and yet never the same: it is the same truth, but it is always placed in a new light, put in a new connection, or in some way or other invested with freshness…. The Germans called it “The Christian’s golden A B C of the praise, love, power, and use of the Word of God.””
The Golden Alphabet - A Devotional Commentary on Psalm 119

119. Meditations and Prayers Relating to the Law of God.
Aleph
Blessed are those people who keep God’s law, his statutes and seek him with all their heart. They stay close to God. He has given us rules that are to be fully obeyed. I wish I were better at obeying You! Then I would not feel shame when I think about Your commands. I will praise You and do right by learning to respect your perfect laws. I will obey them! Don’t forget about me.
Beth
Young people can live a clean life by following Your word. I seek You, please help me stay with You. I keep Your word in my heart so I don’t sin against You. Blessed are You, help me learn Your laws. I tell everyone about Your laws; following them makes me as happy as being rich. I will study and follow and take pleasure in Your laws, and remember Your words.
Gimel
Treat me well so I can live for You and do what You say. Open my mind so I can discover the wonders of Your law. I am here for a short time, do not hide Your commands from me. What I want most of all is to honor and obey You at all times. You punish those boastful nobodies who turn away from Your commands. Take away their scorn and contempt from me because I follow You. Even when enemies plot against me, I think about your laws. Your rules are my greatest joy, I follow their advice.
Daleth
I am at deaths door, revive me according to Your word. When I told You my troubles you helped me; teach me Your laws. Help me to understand Your precepts and I will meditate on your marvelous works. Keep me from deceiving myself and fill me with Your grace. I have chosen the way of truth and am determined to follow Your laws. I will run to You, for you have set my heart free.
He
Teach me Your rules and I will keep them to the end. Give me understanding and I promise to obey with all my heart. Direct my ways I am pleased to obey. Turn my heart to your desires and away from worthless things. I am Your servant, fulfill Your promise so others will respect You. Your laws protect me from insults which I dread. I long for your teachings, revive me through Your righteousness.

July 14, 2010 Psalms 114-118:9
114. God’s Deliverance of Israel from Egypt. When Israel came out of Egypt, Judah became God’s holy place and He ruled over Israel. The Red Sea parted (Exodus 14:21) and the Jordan River stopped (Joshua 3:13) the mountains skipped like rams. Why did the sea go away? Why did the Jordan River flow backwards? Why did the mountains skip like rams? The earth trembles at the presence of God. He commands and the earth obeys.
115. The Lord Deserves to be Praised. Nobody but God deserves praise. Unbelievers ask “Where is your God?” He is in heaven doing whatever he wishes. Their idols are made of gold and silver. They have mouths and eyes, but they cannot hear or speak. They have noses, but they cannot smell. They can’t feel with their hands or move their legs. They can’t make a sound. The people who made the idols and trust them are as helpless as those useless chunks of metal. People of Israel must trust God for help and protection. All who worship God will receive His blessing, no matter who they are. May your descendants always grow strong. May the God creator of heaven and earth give you His blessing. The Lord has kept the heavens for himself, but He has given us the earth. The dead cannot praise God, but the living can. Shout praises to God!
116. Deliverance from Death. I love you Lord. You heard my prayers and answered them and saved me. I will pray to you as long as I live. Death was everywhere; I thought I was a goner. When I was hurting badly, I said “God please don’t let me die!” and You protected me. You protect ordinary people and You saved me so I don’t need to worry anymore. You were right there for me, I didn’t mean it when I said “I can’t trust anyone.” How can I ever repay You, Lord? A drink offering? Prayers? I know You care deeply when one of Your loyal people faces death. I worship You Lord, just as my mother taught me. You have saved me from death and I will offer a sacrifice to show how grateful I am, and I will pray. I will keep my promise to You. Shout praises to the Lord!
117. Praise God. Everyone on earth praise God. Great is his love for us. His faithfulness endures forever. Praise the Lord.
118. The Lord’s Mercy. God’s love is everlasting. Tell God how grateful you are for His kindness and mercy. Let everyone say, “His love endures forever.” God’s got your back what is there to fear? He is there to help you. It is better to trust the Lord for protection than anyone else.

110. The King as Priest and Victor. God asked Jesus to sit at his right hand until He makes His enemies a footstool for His feet. The Lord will give power to rule and troops that will fight for you. God has promised and will not change his mind that “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” (Genesis 14:18) The Lord is at your right hand and will crush powerful people when He gets angry. He will judge nations leaving dead bodies everywhere. He will drink from a brook wherever he chooses, in victory.
111. Praise THE Lord for All He Has Done. Shout praises to God! David would give thanks to God anywhere He was. Great are the works of the Lord especially to those who ponder them and study them. He has caused His wonders to be remembered. The Lord is full of grace and compassion. He provides food for those who respect Him. He will remember His covenant forever. He has shown people His power – he gave them lands of other nations. His laws are true and right and will stand forever. Respect God and obey His commandments, then you will be wise. Praise God forever.
112. The Prosperity of the Righteous. Blessed is the man who respects God and finds peace and contentment in obeying his teachings. He will be blessed with a long line of children. Wealth and riches are in his house. Even when it’s dark the righteous man lives in light, he is gracious, compassionate and righteous. Good things will come to a person who lends freely and is honest. People remember good people. A good man trusts God and has no fear of bad news. He is secure in the knowledge that God will protect him. He gives freely to the poor and he will be honored. The wicked man will be jealous and never get what he truly wants.
113. The Lord Helps People in Need. Praise God now and forever. He raises the poor and needy to high places. He makes the barren woman a joyful mother in her house. Praise the Lord!

107. Continued. At times their numbers became few and they seemed to be crushed by sorrow and troubles. They asked God for help and he gave it. Truly wise people will remember these things and think about the love and kindness of the Lord.
108. A Song of Confidence in God.
Dear God,
My heart is true to You. I will make music and awaken the dawn to praise You with all my soul. Your love is so great it reaches to heaven and Your loyalty reaches to the skies. May You be honored in heaven and Your glory seen everywhere on earth. Please save us and help those of us who love You. I remember Your promise to divide the city of Shechem and divide Succoth valley piece by piece. You took the lands of Gilead and Manasseh for Your own, Ephraim as Your helmet and Judah as Your symbol of royal power. Moab is only a washbasin for You and You toss your sandal at Edom. You declared victory over the Philistines. But who will lead me to the fortress or to Edom? Have You rejected us? Won’t You lead our armies? Help us defeat our enemies because no one else can! The only way we will win is if You help us.
Love, David
108. Vengeance Invoked upon Adversaries. David asked God for help dealing with liars who were speaking against him. He wanted the evil men to have a personal experience of what they were wishing for David. He wanted them tried and found guilty and their life ended. Then he wanted them stripped of their title, their fatherless children to become beggars, their wife a widow and a creditor to seize all they had, while strangers plundered all they had worked for. He didn’t want anyone to show kindness to the widow or children even to the point of having their names blotted out. David wanted God to always remember their sin, because they never thought of being kind to people, especially the poor, the needy and brokenhearted. The curses they so heartlessly pronounced on their victims should be upon them. They didn’t value blessing so they didn’t deserve to have it. They cursed so much they were covered in them like clothes. Their curses should seep deep into their bones. David thought they should receive what they said they wanted to happen to him. David knew God would help him stand firm against his enemies. He asked God to show them it was God who saved David, so they would be disgraced.

July 11, 2010 Psalms 106:34-107:38
106. Continued. The Israelites did not follow God’s instruction regarding the inhabitants of the land: “If you don’t force out all the people there, they will be like pointed sticks in your eyes and thorns in your back. They will always be trouble for you, and I will treat you as cruelly as I planned on treating them.” (Numbers 33:55-56 CEV) They mingled their people together in both marriage and custom. The Israelites worshiped the Canaanite idols and sacrificed their own children to those idols. They sold themselves to an unworthy cause. They broke the covenant they made with God, which was the reason God was so angry with them. God handed them over to their enemies and they were oppressed and they wasted away in their sin. But God still heard their cries and caused them to be pitied by their enemies. Save us Dear Lord and we will celebrate and praise Your name. Praise the Lord!

107. Give thanks to God because He is good and His love never fails. Everyone the Lord has helped should praise Him. Some were lost in the desert and dying, they prayed and God saved them. He led them to a city where they could live. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love. He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry. Those who rebelled against the Lord sat in despair and deep gloom, but they cried to the Lord and He saved them from their trouble. Let them give thanks to God for the comfort they have received. Merchants went out on the sea in ships and the sea tossed them around and their courage vanished. They prayed to God to save them and He did. Let them give thanks to God for His unfailing love. God will turn a lush and vibrant land into a wasteland if His people turn from Him. Likewise, he can turn a desert into a land of plenty.

July 10, 2010 Psalms 105:25-106:33
105. Continued. He caused the Egyptians to hate them and God sent them Moses and Aaron, who performed miraculous signs so they would know God had sent them. He sent darkness because they had rebelled against His word, He turned the waters into blood and all the fish died. He covered the land with frogs – they were even inside people’s houses. Then he sent swarms of flies and gnats. He turned rain into hail with lightning and destroyed all the vines and fig trees and broke all the other trees to pieces. Then He spoke and locusts and grasshoppers came and ate every green thing there was. Then God took the life of every first-born. Then they left and Egypt sent them with much gold and silver, they were glad to see them go. God led them in a cloud which looked like fire at night. When they asked for food God sent more birds than they could eat. God even split a rock and fresh water gushed out into the desert. God remembered His promise to Abraham; He brought his children to the land of their inheritance. All He asked was that they keep His commandments. Praise the Lord.
106. The Lord’s Goodness to Men. Give thanks to God, his love endures forever. God blesses those who honor Him by doing what is right. David remembered the journey of the Israelites as they wandered in the desert. He compared his generation to that of his ancestors. They had both sinned by not appreciating the miracles which God performed on their behalf. Over and over God saved the children of Israel and answered their prayers, but they were never grateful enough to simply obey God. Even the gifts from God weren’t good enough for them – and He gave them everything they asked for!

104. Continued. God set the earth on its foundations and it will not be moved. The waters which He created covered all the earth. God spoke and the waters flowed to their designated place. He placed a boundary so that the earth will never again be covered by the water. God provides water to the beasts and birds, the earth is satisfied by His work. He makes plants grow to feed man and beast alike. God gives man wine that gladdens hearts, oil that makes faces shine and bread that sustains hearts. God tends his garden well so life continues in abundance. Everything depends on God who gives life and sustenance at the right time. When He turns from them they die, He returns, and they are renewed. May the glory of God endure forever! I will praise God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to Him as I rejoice in the Lord. May sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked disappear. Praise the Lord.
105. The Lord’s Wonderful Works in Behalf of Israel. Give thanks to God and pray to Him. Make known what He has done. Sing to Him and praise Him. Look to the Lord and His strength, seek his face always. Remember his miracles and judgments. God promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to give their children the land of Canaan. When they were few in number they wandered, homeless, from place to place. God protected them. Then there was a famine, but God had sent Joseph to Egypt and tested him, then the king of Egypt made Joseph an important man. Then Israel went to Egypt and the Lord made his people multiply and grow strong.

102. Continued. All day long my enemies taunt me and use my name as a curse word. Instead of food I eat ashes and drink tears, because You are angry and throw me aside. You are King forever and You will always be famous. We know You will show compassion for Zion - the very stones of the city are dear to us. Nations will know you are God when Zion is rebuilt by you. Future generations must also praise the Lord. From heaven, God looked down and heard the groans of the prisoners to release everyone doomed to die. People will praise God when they assemble to worship Him. Nations and people will come and go, but God lives forever. Every generation of those who serve God will live in His presence.
103. The Lord's Wonderful Love. With all my heart I praise God. I will never forget His kindness to me. He forgives out sins, heals us when we are sick and protects us from death. We are crowned with His kindness and love. Everyday he gives us what we need and keeps us strong like a young eagle. God brings justice to those mistreated. He taught Moses and showed Israel what He could do. God is merciful, kind and patient and his love never fails. The Lord will not always be angry and point out our sins, he doesn't punish us as our sins deserve. God's love for us is greater than the distance between heaven and earth. The Lord has taken our sins farther away from us than the distance between east and west. The Lord is as kind to those who worship Him as a loving parent is to a cherished child - He knows how fragile we are. God keeps His promises to those who faithfully obey Him. God rules all creation from his kingdom in heaven. Let all creation obey God and praise the Lord!
104. The Lord Takes Care of His Creation. I praise our very great God who is clothed in splendor and majesty, He wears light like a garment. He spreads out the sky like a tent and builds His home over the mighty ocean. The clouds are His chariot which rides on the wings of the wind. The winds are His messengers and flames of fire His servants.

He spreads out the sky like a tent and builds His home over the mighty ocean. The clouds are His chariot which rides on the wings of the wind. The winds are His messengers and flames of fire His servants.

July 7, 2010 Psalms 98:4-102:7
98. Continued. Tell everyone on earth to sing joyfully to the Lord. Use musical instruments and make beautiful music for God's glory. Shout for joy and celebrate! Let all creation - the earth itself, and people, worship God. He is coming to judge in honesty and equity.
99. Praise to a Holy God. All the nations of the earth should know that God rules the earth. Let us praise His name and know that He is King. Worship and exalt God. Moses, Aaron and Samuel were His priests and called His name. He spoke to them from a pillar of cloud and they followed His commandments. God answered their prayers and forgave their sins, though he punished them when they did wrong. We praise God and worship only Him.
100. A Song of Praise and Joy. Shout for joy to the Lord, everyone on earth. Worship Him with gladness and joyful songs. God made us and we belong to Him. Be thankful and praise Him in His temple. God is good! His love and faithfulness will last forever.
101. A Perfect Heart.
Dear God,
I will sing to you and celebrate your love and justice. I will behave wisely and carefully to be blameless. When will you come to me? I will walk in my house with integrity. I promise not to become corrupt, or take part in anything crooked. I won't be dishonest or deceitful. I will not tolerate people who gossip or brag about themselves. I will seek faithful and trustworthy people to be my advisors
and only an honest man will be my official. No one who lies or cheats will have a place in my court. Every morning I will destroy those who do evil, so they will be cut off from the city of the Lord.
Love, David
102. A Prayer in Time of Trouble. Dear Lord, I need you now, please hear my request. The days of my life are vanishing like smoke, my bones burn like they are in a furnace. My heart is shriveling and I've lost my appetite. I am reduced to skin and bones and my groaning never stops. I am like a lonely owl in the desert or a bird alone on a roof.

July 6, 2010 Psalms 94:17-98:3
94. Continued. When his foot was slipping, God's love supported him. When he was anxious and full of fear, God's consolation brought joy to his soul. Can unjust rulers and governments be aligned with God? Our protection comes from God, He will defeat the wicked who would try to destroy us.
95. Praise to the Lord and Warning Against Unbelief. Sing and shout for joy to the Lord! Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and worship Him with music and song. God made all that is. Let us bow down and worship God who leads us, the people of his flock. Today, if you hear His voice, don't harden your heart as the children of Israel did; they tested God in spite of seeing His great miracles with their own eyes. He was angry with them for 40 years. Their hearts went astray and did not know God. So He swore an oath in His anger that they would never enter His rest.
96. A Call to Worship the Lord. Sing to Lord, all the people of earth! Proclaim His salvation, declare His glory and marvelous deeds to everyone. The Lord is great and worthy of praise. Give all glory due to God. Worship Him and tremble before Him. Let everything in the world celebrate that the Lord will come to judge the people on earth in His truth.
97. The Lord's Power and Dominion. The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad. His throne is built on righteousness and justice. The presence of God is great - fire and lightning are under His control. Those who brag about useless idols they worship are ashamed when they see their idols bow down to God. The Lord rules the whole earth and He is more glorious than all the false gods. Love the Lord and hate evil! God protects His loyal people and rescues them from violence. "If you obey and do right, a light will show you the way and fill you with happiness." You are God's people. Celebrate!
98. The Lord Works Miracles. Sing a new song to praise God! He has worked miracles and has won the victory. The Lord has shown nations that He has the power to save and bring justice. God has been faithful to Israel and His power is seen everywhere on earth.

July 5, 2010 Psalms 91:14-94:16
91. Continued. God protects the ones who love Him and speak to Him. He will answer when they call Him and keep them safe.
92. Praise for the Lord's Goodness. It is good to praise God with music. In the morning and evening make music for God because we are grateful for all He does for us. See the works of God and rejoice! Senseless people don't understand that the wicked spring up like grass, and flourish, but they will be forever destroyed. Eventually, the evil people will be scattered and the righteous will flourish in the courts of God.
93. The Majesty of the Lord. The Lord wears majesty and is armed with strength. The world is where He put it and will not be moved. He rules and is eternal. When the surf is high and waves pound like thunder, know that God is greater and rules over all for eternity.
94. The Lord Punishes the Guilty. Whoever wrote this Psalm asked God to punish the wicked. He asked that they be paid back what they deserve. How long would the wicked be happy? They are proud, boastful, arrogant, cruel and brutal. They are so caught up in their own power they don't think God notices them. Can't these fools see? Won't they ever learn? God gave us eyes and ears, so He can hear and see. God gives us knowledge and He'll correct us too. God knows the thoughts and plans of people and how useless they are. Blessed is the person God teaches and changes from His law. Who will take a stand for God against evil?

4th of July, 2010 Psalms 89:38-91:13
89. Continued. God was angry with His chosen king and broke His agreement with him. The city was destroyed and his enemies rejoiced. The kingdom was broken. He asked God to remember them before death, because life is short. He asked God to remember them and the way they were treated by their enemies.
Book 4
90. Eternal God and Mortal Man. A prayer of Moses, the man of God. Moses proclaimed the existence of God before anything. A thousand years is like yesterday to God. He sweeps men away in the sleep of death, like grass which grows new in the morning and by evening it is dead. Moses lamented that they were doomed to die before reaching the promised land because they had broken God's covenant. Moses asked God for wisdom to be given them while they lived, even if their lives were short. He asked God to help them to be grateful for the time they did have to live and not take it for granted. He asked for God's blessings.
91. The Security of the Godly. Live under God's protection by trusting in Him and He will save you from peril. You will have no need to fear what can harm you. God is your fortress and He will protect you from calamities which befall the wicked. (Verses 11&12 are spoken by Satan when he tries to tempt Jesus in Luke 4:10&11.) You will overpower lions and snakes.

87. The Privileges of Citizenship in Zion. The City of God, Zion also known as Jerusalem or The City of David, had a reputation as being blessed by God. It would be a good thing to be born there. Songs would say that all joy springs from the City of God.
88. Prayer in the Face of Death. He asked God to hear his prayer. He was troubled because he was near death and he felt alone and afraid. He wondered whether God’s love was present in the grave. He had suffered affliction from the time he was young. His companions and loved ones had been taken from him so that darkness was his closest friend.
89. God’s Covenant with David. Ethan would sing of God’s great love forever. He would tell future generations that God’s love can always be trusted. He said one of David’s descendants would always be king. God is more glorious than any other beings in heaven. He rules the roaring sea and calms the waves. He crushed enemies and the whole earth belongs to Him. The Lord blesses all who come to Him. They are happy because of Him. God’s power made them strong. God chose David to be king and would always be there to help him. David could count on God’s never ending love. David’s family would always rule as long as the sun and moon appear in the sky.

83. Prayer for Israel's Defense. Asaph asked God to rise up against the enemies who plotted against His people. Other places and people had been subdued by God and Asaph asked God to protect the nation of Israel from the descendants of Lot. Asaph asked God to wipe them away like dust. He wanted their enemies to know they were protected by God.
84. Longing for Worship in the Temple. The place where God lives is lovely. Blessed are those whose strength is in God. Even though there may be weeping and sadness, life goes on and we end up in God's house because we have obeyed Him. Blessed is the man who trusts God.
85. Prayer for God's Mercy on the Nation. God had restored Israel and forgiven them before and they wanted to be forgiven again. Over and over they returned to their wicked ways and forgot God. They promised to be good this time.
"Righteousness and peace kiss each other."
86. Prayer for Deliverance. David prayed for protection from his enemies. He gave himself to God. He knew God heard him and he asked God for help. David knew how great God is. Though nations could do great things, none were as great as God. David asked God to purify his heart so he could glorify God. David had been saved by God before and he asked for the favor again. Ruthless men who did not know God were after David and he wanted their plans interrupted by God. David asked for a sign so all would know David was in His care. David was comforted.

July 1, 2010 Psalms 79-82
79. A Lament for Jerusalem. Nations invaded the land God gave them and defiled the temple. People left for dead were consumed by wild animals, there was no one to bury them. Asaph asked God to save them. He asked God to make himself known so that no one could doubt He was there. He prayed that God would punish those who had contempt for Him. Then they would praise Him forever and ever.
80. A Call for God to Rescue His People from Their Calamities. Asaph asked God to awaken and restore them so they would be saved. He had brought them out of Egypt and cleared the towns for them to move into. But then things got ruined when the people forgot God. He asked God to revive them and they would call on His name again.
81. God's Goodness and Israel's Waywardness. Sing and shout to God with joy and thanksgiving! Play music and sound the ram's horn when the moon is new and again when it is full. God had rescued them from Egypt and tested them at Meribah (Numbers 29:9-13) They had heard God tell them to listen and obey and not to have other gods before Him, to trust Him and He would meet all their needs. But some people chose not to obey Him and they continued in their wicked ways - their punishment would last forever. If they obeyed God, He would feed them the finest wheat and honey.
82. Unjust Judgements Rebuked. Asaph made a political statement with this Psalm. Even in the presence of God, the judges and magistrates showed partiality to the wicked. He asked them to do right by those less fortunate and not allow them to be taken advantage by the wicked. Asaph knew that wicked people know nothing and understand nothing and walk in darkness. They had been seduced by the power of their office and held themselves to be like gods. But they would die like everyone else.
